All About Le Gourmet Burger

If you ever get the chance to visit Montreal, Canada then you’re in for a good treat! Not only is Montreal an English speaking city but a charming city is filled with restaurants and tourist attractions galore. It is also a beautiful city both during the winter and summer months with various attractions during both seasons. Cody and I have been to Montreal three or four times now and every time we go we always find something new. This time around, we found a really hip burger joint called Le Gourmet Burger. Cody had found a review of it online and read that it was one of the best burger joints in Montreal. Knowing that, we couldn’t help but visit it the minute we arrived to Montreal. Also, Cody is a huge burger fan so we had to go to fill his appetite of burgers.

What I really enjoyed about Le Gourmet Burger was that they had unique types of burgers. Instead of having your typical types of french fries, they offered sweet potato fries and poutine. For those of you who don’t know what poutine is, it is a wonderful Canadian treat. Anyone who visits Canada needs to try it at least once and after one try, I bet you’ll have it more then once! Not only does Le Gourmet Burger have beef patties, but also chicken and what they call a végé-pate burger. If you enjoy toppings on your burger, be prepared for a long list of choices you can choose from! They offer bacon, hummus, fried egg, walnuts, pickled beets, coleslaw and more.

When I went to Le Gourmet Burger I ordered the Le Gentlemen burger. It was a delicious beef burger topped with lettuce, tomato, blue cheese, bacon, and walnuts. What I found really cool about this place was that the people who worked there liked to have fun. The gentlemen working at the cash register joked around with me when I ordered my burger saying I already had a “gentlemen” (meaning my boyfriend). I joked back with him saying, “I know, but I can’t eat him!” If you appreciate modern art then you would love the inside appeal Le Gourmet Burger gives off. They have chess piece salt and pepper shakers, bright colored paintings on their walls, exposed brick inside, and the trippiest bathroom I have ever been into! When you walk into their bathroom you will notice that all of the walls are covered in mirrors. No matter where you look, you will always see yourself and it is very mesmerizing.

If you enjoy hip burger joints with unique flavors and a fun atmosphere, then Le Gourmet Burger is for you! Stop by and check them if you get the chance to visit Montreal, Canada and I’m sure you’ll be glad you had.

The Story Of Homemade Burger

How Homemade Burgers Were Made

Hamburgers have been labelled as a junk food in certain food qualifying bodies. This is where a clarification needs to be done. Not all hamburgers are junk. It can only be junk if the burger is brought from fast food chains who have stored their beef patties in freezers for years. The healthy burgers are the Homemade Burgers. These are healthy because they are full of nutrients, proteins and vitamins. But, most especially, they are healthy because they are homemade and American mothers always make sure to provide the best food for their families. There was a time when hamburgers were not considered in any way junk. It is about time to learn how hamburgers became hamburgers.

Originally, the hamburger is a word derived from Hamburg, Germany. There was a certain kind of steak that was very popular in Germany in the 1700s, and it was called the Hamburg Steak. When the time came that sailors and Germans came to America, they brought this delicious dish with them. Come 1800s, as a sign of American ingenuity, the Hamburg Steak evolved into the Hamburger. A Texan named Fletcher Davis, who owned a restaurant named the Texan Café, offered a meal to his guests with grilled ground beef sandwiched in a bun. This dish was called the Hamburger. At that time, a lot of meat grinders were sold in the market because American homes would often want to keep one with them so they can make their own Homemade Burgers.

Homemade Burgers are now not only limited to beef as its meat. Again, as a sign of American ingenuity, Americans always have a knack of spicing recipes up a bit. Today, there are Homemade Burgers that are made of ground turkey meat, ground pork, ground chicken, ground venison, ground lamb, and there are even Homemade Burgers out there that are especially made for vegetarians. Homemade Burgers for vegetarians are usually made of portabella mushrooms. They taste good that one would almost not even know that they are mushrooms instead of meat. This only proves that hamburgers are not really junk food, especially when they are homemade.

Burgers are actually very rich in nutrients and proteins because it is, or at least most of the time, made of meat. In the past, most patties were made of left over chunks of beef. Today, as people are becoming more health conscious, burgers, especially Homemade Burgers, are now taken from the round, chuck or sirloin of the animal. This only makes the burgers more flavourful than the past burgers. At the same time, people become more confident in their food because they know where they are from, unlike in the past when the patties are just made of different scraps of left over beef.

There is a reason why the hamburger is a favourite dish of most Americans. There is nothing like a tasty grilled burger at the end of a day’s work for men. This meal is a filling meal that will leave you contented after. It is just important to signify that Homemade Burgers will taste better than those from fast food chains, as well as they are healthier.

  • 4 strips of bacon (diced)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
  • ½ medium onion (chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp. hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Tomato, lettuce and pickle for garnish

Directions for Stuffed Burgers:

  1. Clean and prepare the grill for cooking. Preheat the grill to medium heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine beef, garlic, hot sauce, salt and pepper until well combined. Be careful not to over mix the meat mixture – this could cause the burgers to be dry.
  3. In a skillet, fry bacon over medium-high heat until crispy. Transfer bacon to a paper towel lined plate and allow to drain. Once cooled, chop bacon and set aside.
  4. Add chopped onions and garlic to the same skillet and sauté with bacon fat until tender, approximately 5 minutes.

All About Burger King

In 1952, Keith Cramer owned a carhop restaurant in Daytona Beach, FL. He flew out to California, on the advice of his stepfather, Matthew Burns, to see the newest innovation in restaurants at the time — McDonald’s.

Cramer was impressed with the speed and automation and he and Burns acquired the rights to George Read’s Miracle Insta-Machines. These were Rube Goldberg-type devices designed to make fast food really fast. One of the models made multiple milk shakes while the other, called the Insta-Broiler, could cook twelve burgers simultaneously. Four hundred burgers could be cooked in an hour with one machine.

In 1953, Cramer opened his fast food burger joint in Jacksonville and named it after the cooker — Insta-Burger King.

His burgers sold for 18 cents apiece (McDonald’s burgers at the time were 15 cents each) and they were a great success.

Two franchisers, James McLamore and David R. Edgerton, Jr., liked the concept and launched several Insta-Burger King restaurants in Miami in 1954. Fortunately — as you will see — they failed.

So McLamore and Edgerton began to experiment. Soon they got rid of the Insta-Broiler and created
a similar flame broiler — which made their renamed Burger King famous. They also introduced a much larger burger, the Whopper, of course, and sold it for 37 cents. This was considered a very risky business move at the time but, as we know, it paid off handsomely. It became their signature product and their tag-line became “Burger King, Home of the Whopper.”

They soon acquired the Insta-Burger Kings, renamed them and refitted them for their new products. They began to massively franchise in 1961 and soon their new restaurants were all over Florida and the rest of the nation.

Burger King was the first fast food hamburger joint to install indoor eating areas at their outlets — in 1967, a year before McDonald’s did the same.

Pillsbury acquired the chain in 1967 and began a massive promotional campaign. The slogans and jingles — such as the well known “Have it Your Way” — were a huge success and Burger King grew to the number 2 burger restaurant in the world.

By 2004, Burger King had more than 11,000 outlets in 61 countries and territories worldwide, including 7,000 in the United States.

When you can’t make it to Burger King (or even if you can) — Grill out!
